Success Examples of Approved
Transportation Enhancement Tree
Planting Program Grants
| City of Brookhaven
- The 254 trees of 23 different species have transformed Brookway
Boulevard. Trees varied in size, species, shape, and spacing, but were
grouped in locations and mulched to provide continuity. The total project
cost was $34,477, with $15,000 being reimbursed by the grant. This project
will provide future environmental benefits from large tree canopy as well
as aesthetic value from many textures, colors, shapes, and sizes. Native
species and well adapted exotics were planted according to a previously
prepared landscape plan. Not only did this project enhance the
transportation corridor, but also the community. |

City of Brandon - "Welcome to
Brandon" is what these trees tell all those that pass by. Trees
planted under the grant have been well maintained and the city has not had
one tree die on any of its three grant projects. Good planning followed by
careful yet prompt implementation has contributed to success. Economic
efficiency, sound technical aspects, and strong community support have
ensured grant dollars are spent wisely. |

| City of Ocean Springs
- Community character and environmental benefits are important outcomes of
this tree planting project. One hundred thirteen large (up to 3"
caliper) live oaks and southern magnolias make a bold statement along
Highway 90. A city tree ordinance and active city government will ensure
these trees are maintained for years to come. |
